My horse, Fling (Flying Colorz) and I got our Fourth level scores toward the USDF Silver Medal in 2013. Since then, we’ve been struggling to ready ourselves for PSG. Many roadblocks along the way – a full time job and grueling commute, parents in separate elder facilities, an incredibly rainy 18 months, sporadic lameness due to the incredibly wet weather. I initially was going to show her PSG at an annual schooling show championships that Houston Dressage Society hosts every December at our local, large show complex. The on-again, off-again slight lameness due to the wet winter scrapped that plan.
In February, a local farm where my trainer has clients had a schooling show, and I was finally able to show PSG there, with the help of my trainer schooling me. We had bobbles, but put in a respectable ride for a 57.5%. Not bad for our first time, and not bad for a horse that was trained up the levels by her amateur owner, with no professional training – just coaching from many great people through the years. The plan now is to go to a few more schooling shows, then hit the recognized shows this summer. The goal is to finish my Silver before the end of the show year Sept. 30, and pick up my Silver medal at the USDF convention in December. I always said I would pick up my Bronze, when I got it, at the convention. I didn’t – I had it mailed. But I am definitely showing up in person to collect my Silver!
